Simulated guest Daily: five prompts from start to camp

Angola matched the Africa clue for 70 km. A Congo answer missed the Caribbean clue, so it earned zero. After a brief connection loss, the choice remained visible and the saved game resumed on refresh. A saved Algeria pin timed out on a landlocked clue; Algeria then correctly matched a coastal Africa clue for another 70 km. The final island clue was skipped. The camp explained each outcome and offered another expedition or a friend challenge.

THE WORLD BEYOND YOUR FIRST ANSWER

A familiar map. A less obvious answer.

The Farflung game turns a little country knowledge into a daily expedition. Read a geography clue, find a country that fits, and place your pin. More than one answer can be right. The interesting choice is whether to trust the country you thought of first or look somewhere less familiar.

A correct answer earns distance; a rarer correct answer earns more. Across five prompts, your choices build a journey of up to 500 km. These kilometres are game points, not the physical distance between your pins. You can enjoy the puzzle without knowing every capital or recognising every coastline.

This independent Farflung game edition brings together daily play, repeatable expeditions, and untimed practice. Start with the map above, or explore the choices below before setting out. No download is needed: the expedition happens in your browser.

YOUR FIRST FIVE PINS

How to play the Farflung game

01

Read the whole clue

Look for the condition that makes a country qualify. A capital, a land border, and an island location ask for different kinds of knowledge. Read any scope note before deciding. In the Farflung game, recognising a restriction can be more useful than recalling another famous place.

02

Choose, then commit

Move around the map and select a country. Check the displayed name, wait for “Saving…” to disappear and Drop pin to become available, then commit. You can reconsider an uncommitted selection. Standard timed rounds allow 60 seconds; opening an in-game menu or rules panel pauses the clock once saved. Switching tabs does not pause it.

03

Bring something back

Finish the five prompts, review your result, and investigate an answer that surprised you. The Farflung game gives you a reason to revisit an unfamiliar region. One country you can place tomorrow is a more useful souvenir than a score you have already forgotten.

A FIELD EXAMPLE · NOT TODAY’S CLUE

Correct first. Unexpected second.

TRY THINKING OF TWO ANSWERS
Name a country with a land border with France in Europe.

Belgium · Germany · Italy · Spain · Switzerland

Teaching example only. No current daily answers or measured player choices are shown.

For this teaching example, all five countries shown meet the condition; they are examples, not the complete answer set. The words “in Europe” matter. Start with an answer you can justify, then consider another part of the border. Do not choose a country simply because its name feels obscure.

The Farflung game rewards the combination of accuracy and rarity. A familiar correct choice still earns distance. An unusual country that fails the clue earns zero. The example does not assign rarity tiers to these countries: a country’s value belongs to a particular question and its scoring snapshot.

READING THE DISTANCE

Five tiers. One shared scoring snapshot.

40 kmCommon
55 kmUncommon
70 kmRare
85 kmElusive
100 kmFarflung

A correct answer in the Farflung game earns 40, 55, 70, 85, or 100 km, from Common through Farflung. Five top-tier answers reach 500 km. An incorrect or skipped answer earns zero; a timed-out round uses the last valid selection saved by the server, if there is one.

This edition fixes the scoring snapshot before an expedition begins. Rarity can use editorial estimates, optional AI review, and eligible historical results; it is not a claim that live players have already chosen each answer. Read the method label and sample count with your result. Later guesses do not quietly change your score.

One Farflung game, three ways to explore

01 / DAILY

A shared starting line

Choose the daily Farflung game when you want the same five prompts as everyone else. A new challenge opens at midnight UTC. When ranked sign-in is available, sign in before starting to qualify; guest daily play is casual. Trying today’s casual questions prevents a later ranked attempt on that known identity.

02 / UNLIMITED

Another journey, right now

Keep exploring after the daily Farflung game with repeatable five-round expeditions. Use them to try a different approach or revisit the map while the previous result is fresh. Unlimited results stay separate from this edition’s Daily leaderboard, so another practice run does not buy another ranked attempt.

03 / WANDER

Leave the clock behind

Take an untimed Farflung game route when you want room to think. Wander includes country search and optional labels, making it useful for learning locations before a timed challenge. Explore a theme, inspect a small island country, or read a clue twice without watching a countdown.

MORE THAN A FINISHING SCORE

Make the unfamiliar part of your map.

A notebook of discoveries. Conceptual illustration, not a game screenshot.

The Farflung game works well as a small learning ritual: finish an expedition, choose one unfamiliar country, and look it up on the map. Your passport records eligible discoveries and earned achievements. Wander stays separate from the daily leaderboard, so you can rehearse without using another ranked attempt.

For a quieter second look, the closed daily archive includes answer explanations and source references after a challenge closes. It lets you examine alternatives without exposing the current competition. The Farflung game becomes easier to reason about when you understand why an answer qualifies, rather than memorising a list of names.

Want to compare routes? Create a private friend challenge with shared questions or use an invitation-only league for daily and weekly standings. A shared result can become a conversation about geography. There is no need to turn every Farflung game into a race for the least familiar name.

BEFORE YOU SET OUT

Farflung game questions, answered

Is this the official Farflung game?

No. farflunggame.fun is an independently developed edition with its own question records, artwork, and implementation. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the original creators. If you intended to visit the original Farflung game, its website is farflung.game.

Is the Farflung game free, and do I need an account?

Daily play, unlimited expeditions, Wander, friend challenges, and private leagues are free. You can begin as a guest. If ranked sign-in is available, sign in before starting to qualify and save progress across devices. Private leagues require sign-in and an invitation.

Can I play the Farflung game on my phone?

Yes. Use the browser map on a phone or a desktop. Drag to move the chart and zoom to inspect small countries before selecting. On a larger screen, keyboard map controls offer another way to navigate. Wait until the atlas and session are ready before starting.

What happens if I refresh or lose connection?

Your Farflung game attempt is saved on the server, but the timer keeps running. Your selection must reach the server: wait for “Saving…” to disappear and Drop pin to become available. Reconnect and choose Resume expedition to recover the latest saved state. An offline choice that never reached the server cannot be restored as an earlier answer.

Where do the geography answers come from?

The Farflung game uses a 195-country catalogue and question-specific references and scope notes. Read the explanation when an answer surprises you, and use the question report action if you find a factual mismatch. The Sources page explains map geometry, country data, attribution, and the distinction between facts and rarity estimates.
